newyorkers

In 1996, Manhattan Theater Club commissioned the team of lyricist Glenn Slater and composer Stephen Weiner to write songs about living in New York City. As songs kept coming, an homage to the City took shape in the form of a bookless musical revue of twenty three story-songs that were funny, biting, poignant, and charming musical portraits of the city that embraced a wide range of musical styles and moods. Following a series of readings and workshops, newyorkers opened in March of 2001 starring Tony Award Winning actress Priscilla Lopez, Liz Larsen, Pamela Issacs, Stephen DeRosa, Jerry Dixon and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. newyorkers won an Obie Award for Pamela Issacs and was nominated for a Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award.
