Adapted from the classic television series starring Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden, Art Carney as Ed Norton, Audrey Meadows as Alice Kramden and Joyce Randolph as Trixie Norton, these four characters are embedded into the American popular culture, and was the first comedy series blockbuster of its kind when it premiered in 1955, producing the classic 39 episodes. The series forever associated these four actors with their iconic television personalities.
Our musical, being developed by television and screenwriters Bill Nuss and Dusty Kay has a new and original book, while Pete Mills, my collaborator on Iron Curtain is writing the lyrics and Jerry Mitchell is directing.
A second reading of the show is being planned for December 16, 2011 featuring Michael McGrath as Ralph and Hank Azaria as Norton, Kelli Barrett as Alice and Helene York as Trixie.
We are thrilled about our upcoming presentation, complete with a 5-piece band orchestrated by Remy Kurs. Writing for these iconic characters has been one of the greatest thrills of my life. Pete and I have written the score over the last year and a half and have had a blast writing the show.
