
Steve’s writing for the Musical Theater has garnered two Richard Rodgers Awards, the Jonathan Larson Award, ASCAP Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award and Global Search For New Musicals and The New York Innovative (“IT”) Theater Awards. Steve was noted by Variety among its 50 Creatives to Watch with the award winning revue, newyorkers (with lyrics by Glenn Slater) which played at The Manhattan Theater Club. The show won an Obie Award and was nominated for The Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards. Steve’s work was also showcased at An Evening with Comden and Green at Carnegie Hall.

Steve’s newest musical, Rocket Science, the 2010 Richard Rodgers Award winning musical, is an adaptation of the HBO film by Jeff Blitz with Book by Patricia Cotter and Lyrics by Jason Rhyne. Other credits include The Hudsucker Proxy with Book and Lyrics by Glenn Slater, Once Upon a Time in New Jersey with Book and Lyrics by Susan DiLallo, who also wrote the Book for Iron Curtain (Lyrics by Peter Mills), which won the New York Innovative Theater Award. New Jersey had its UK premiere at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, and both New Jersey and Iron Curtain have played at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Festival of New Musicals at The Village Theater in Seattle. Steve’s first show, a country musical, Spittin’ Image (Book by Karin Kasdin, Lyrics by Laura Szabo Cohen) played at the Forum Theater in Metuchen, New Jersey. Concert and cabaret work includes Music of Stephen Weiner: Songs of Love and Aggravation at NYMF, a recent stint at the New Voices Concert Series hosted by Scott Alan, and venues around the city, including Sardis, The Russian Tea Room, and The York Theater.

Steve was a long time member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop, a “graduate” of the ASCAP and Dramatists Guild Workshops, and is a member of ASCAP and The Dramatists Guild. He and his wife Ryta live in Bucks County, PA. and are the proud parents of Marla, Lisa and Olivia and, of course, Gershwin.
